Baccarat Rules

Baccarat is one of easiest games to play in a casino but it is also one of the most exciting casino card games that used to be reserved for the rich. Fortunately, the emergence of online baccarat has made it available for almost every person. Basically, the rules for the online game are the same as those utilized for the offline version.

Values of the Cards

In online baccarat, the number cards get their face values but the other cards have zero value, except for the Aces, which are given the value of one. The basic rules are quite simple because you simply add the values of your cards and consider only the ones digit. For example, if the total is 16, the worth of the cards is six and if the total is 10, the value of the cards is zero. Baccarat is named after the worst hand that a punter can get, which is zero. Thus, the highest value that the banker or dealer can have is nine. The player or dealer can only have up to three cards. However, the best hand is composed of two cards with the sum of nine, which could be an ace and an eight, a two and a seven, a three and a six, and a four and a five. This is called a natural nine and is unbeatable.

Rules for Online Baccarat

In online baccarat, you have to decide whether you will place your bet on the banker, player or whether there will be a tie. It is indeed possible to bet that the dealer will win and if this is indeed the result, you will be required to pay a commission for the house. You may also decide to bet that a particular player will win and this time if this player actually wins over the dealer, you do not need to hand out a commission to the house. The commission may vary but five percent of the winnings is quite common for many online gaming sites. When betting on a tie, the payout is much bigger to take into account the lesser probability for such an event. It should be pointed out that the payout schedule for every hand combination may vary in online betting.

Only two cards are dealt at the start and the one that holds a natural nine, whether the banker or the player, is automatically the winner. Of course, if both the banker and the player have natural nines then the game is a tie. If the value of the initial two cards is five or less, a third card may be requested. The sum is obtained where only the ones digit is considered and the one with the highest value wins.

The minimum bet is usually 20 pounds and the highest possible bet is oftentimes 20,000 pounds although there are some games where there are no limits. The player only has to decide on the amount to bet and the kind of wager.

Terms Often Used in Baccarat

In the popular version of baccarat, the role of banker shifts from one player to another. The banker is the one who holds the shoe or box and this role moves from one player to another in a counter-clockwise direction. The bankroll is the total amount of money that a punter decides to risk in the baccarat is also known as his limit.

The cut-card is a yellow plastic card that the banker may ask one the players to insert into the deck of cards as a way to ensure that the stacking of the cards does not favor anyone. A false draw occurs when an error is made when drawing the third card. The house edge is the percentage of the total amount of bets that will be gained by the casino as profit. A streak is a sequence of wins or losses by a player or the banker.

The Fibonacci System of Betting

Many baccarat players have developed their own systems of betting as a way to maximize the odds that they will make a gain in the end. The Fibonacci system of betting is based on the mathematical sequence where the succeeding number is the sum of the two numbers before it. It starts with a one, followed by another one, then a three, a five, an eight, 13, and so on.

At the start of the game, the punter bets one unit and moves up one level every time he loses. On the other hand, if he wins, he goes down one level. The disadvantage of this system is that players are often bored because a substantial portion of their wins will occur at the first level. Thus, some players may choose to begin at the fourth level or three units. Its advantage over the Martingale system is that it does not need a huge bankroll.

The Martingale Method of Betting

Another strategy of betting is the Martingale method where you simply double the amount that you bet every time you lose a hand. Thus, if you bet 10 pounds on a particular hand and you lost, your next bet will be 20 pounds. The rationale of the system is that when you win, you do not only recover your previous losses but you will also make a profit that is equivalent to your previous bet.

The supposed benefit of this system is that eventually, the punter will stand to gain, assuming that he has an infinite bankroll, because in a game where there are only two outcomes, the number of times that each outcome will have come up will eventually be the same after a certain period of time. Unfortunately, a series of losses could eventually cause the player to go bankrupt very fast because of the exponential growth of the required amount for betting. In addition, the built-in house edge effectively reduces the probability that the player will be able to profit before he uses up his bankroll. And even if the player has an infinite bankroll, he may also reach the maximum bet in just a short time after a series of losses.

The D'Alembert System of Betting

The D'Alembert system is more conservative than the Martingale and Fibonacci betting strategies. Instead of doubling your bet each time you lose a hand, you simply add one unit. Thus, if you start with five pounds and you lost, the next bet would be 10 pounds, and if you lost again, your next bet would be 15 pounds and so on. Thus, it would take longer for you to lose your bankroll although the possibility of a losing streak that will wipe it out is still there. Moreover, the player will always have to contend with the house edge and the fact that raising your bets will also inflate your losses.
