Online Gambling Bigger than Facebook

Recent figures out show that this year in the UK the number of people using online gambling sites has grown even faster then the those turning on to social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn. 

Over the last year there was a 40% increase in the number of people visiting online gambling sites as an additional 3.2 million registered and played when compared to last years figure. This is against the 2.2 million people who signed onto social networking sites. 

The survey showed that the top online gambling site was that of lottery giant, Camelot who were the fastest growing online company, showing an increase of 4.4 million to top out at 9.4 million unique visitors to their website. This is an incredible 88% year on year increase, which has been credited with the successful advertising campaign for the Euro Millions competition. 

Party Gaming and Party Poker also faired well in the figures, with card games and casino sites doing particularly well. PartyPoker saw a 174% rise in visitors to 870,000 players, which demonstrates the increasing popularity in the well-known card game. 

The demographic for online gamblers showed that nearly half those playing online casino games were earning around £30,000 per annum and the greatest increase in players was amongst white, well-educated, middle-aged men. Women, it was also found, made up 46% of online gamblers over the year. The statistics show that the two year growth seen on most gambling sites does not look likely to be slowing down.
