British poker player James Bord this week won one of the most sought after prizes in the poker calendar, a World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) bracelet and with it the first prize of £830,410 in cash.

Bord, who comes from Stanmore in North West London, led the pack of 345 players that registered for the £10,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em main event held in London. This made him the sixth Brit to win a coveted WSOPE bracelet.

The Empire Casino in Leicester Square was the venue for the event and excited spectators saw the 29-year-old Bord go face to face with Italian Fabrizio Baldassari. The head to head came after a thrilling match that had Roland Lee go out in third, with fellow Brit and WSOPE bracelet holder Roland de Wolfe finishing fourth.

As to be expected Bord was ecstatic with his victory, especially having come sixth last year and just missing out. Commenting on his win he said, “I never thought I would win a bracelet, being so close you never know when it’s going to come again.” Bord said he had been preparing well this year by taking lessons from Sam Trickett to sharpen up his tournament play.

The results of the final table were, James Bord £830,401, Fabrizio Baldassari £513,049, Roland Lee £376,829, Roland de Wolfe £278,945, Nicholas Levi £208,119, Daniel Steinberg £156,530, Dan Fleyshman £118,643, Brian Powell £69,754, Marc Inizan £54,114.
