Brits Feature in Poker’s Champion of Champions
British poker stars Liv Boeree and James Bord are amongst a glittering line up of international players who have been invited to take part in the 2011 National Heads Up Champions event.
The two will join an all-star cast of the poker elite to contest for the title of best of the best. That privilege currently rests with female poker veteran Annie Duke, who will return to defend her title. Many other big names on the list of 64 who are contending the competition including Tom Dwan, Barry Greenstein, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, John Juanda, Michael Mizrachi, Daniel Negreanu and Huck Seed.
The European contingent includes many household names from across the pond and joining Boeree and Bord will be Annette Obrestad, Peter Eastgate (fresh out of his announced retirement), and Irishman Phil Laak.
To spice up the event, a number of American celebrity star players have been added to the list including actors Jason Alexander and Don Cheadle, along with American Football star Emmitt Smith. While Jennifer Tilley and Gabe Kaplan are now primarily known for their poker achievements, their roots lie in other fields as well.
The godfather of poker, Doyle Brunson, will be in the starting line with other ace faces include 2009 WSOP winner Joe Cada, Ayaz Mahmood (who made his name taking down the WSOP Championship event), and two online qualifiers - Justin Young and Melburn Whitmire.
The televised event will be run on the 3rd of March at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
