The latest leg of the European Poker Tour has started in Austria at the picturesque venue, the Kursalon Palace in Vienna. This is the first time the poker glitterati have gathered in Vienna since the inaugural tournament seven years ago but the week long exhibition of cards promises to be a thrilling poker event.

The Kursalon Palace can cater for 600 players over a two-day start and Tuesday saw a decent sized 234 crowd join to get proceedings underway. This €5,000 buy-in tournament already has a number of famous PokerStars pros at the tables including Arnaud Mattern, Alex Kravchenko, Ruben Visser and Lex Veldhuis along with such established names as Jake Cody, Jeff Williams and Stephen Chadwick.

Amongst the 117-day 1A survivors to make it through to the second day were Chadwick and PokerStars Czech player, Martin Hruby. Sergii Baranov from the Ukraine ended the day as the chipleader with 182,300 tokens in front of him, slightly ahead of nearest rival Ramon Cserei and Hruby in third slot on 159,000 chips.

There where however, a few of the famous poker players whose day ended sooner than they would have liked and will now at least have time to see the Viennese sights. Mattern, Kravchenko Chistiano Bianco and Kristijons Andrulis were all on the Tuesday’s tour bus. Wednesday it is hoped for a slightly larger field to take their chips and play the nine levels of cards making up Day 1B.
