Poker fans from all over the world have flocked to the Bahamas for a post Christmas celebration in the sun at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. The tournament got underway with the crowd drawing $100k Super High Rollers competition.

This is not a tournament for the faint hearted and the expectant field of 38 poker players desperate to get their hands on the $1.5 million first prize. With these kind of stakes you would imagine it was going to be a long drawn out process but Koen Berendsen bit the dust in 30 minutes. He found that his pocket kings didn’t cut it against Nick Shulman’s pair of aces.

That went some way to putting Shulman in good contention for pot leader at the end of the day. As things happened he went to bed in fourth place with 700,000 chips, behind Bryn Kenney on 828,000 in third. Poker ace Daniel Negreanu was looking good with 848,000 for the top slot until Tobias Reinkemeier stole the limelight in the last hand of the evening. At close of play Reinkemeier leads the first day and the remaining 23 poker hopefuls, with 896.000 chips.

Viktor Blom the online poker sensation (rumoured to secretly be the mysterious poker player “Isildur1”) bust out early in the day. Some of the other notable big names to take and early trip to the Bahamas beaches on Thursday were Bertrand Grosspellier, Jonathan Duhamel, Bill Chen and Scott Seiver. Still the main event is to follow.
