Norway’s Stefan Hansen won the first title of the European poker calendar when he took down the European Masters Poker tournament in Gran Canaria. He found himself up against a field of 315 poker players who had made their way to the Canary Islands for the tournament. Winning the first match of the third season of the EMOP gave him, along with the trophy, a €34,160 pay day in the €1,100 buy-in main event at the islands Casino Las Palmas.

Although Hansen won the title, he came away with a smaller amount of prize money after a four handed deal was agreed between the remaining players. Hansen finally beat the Israeli, Yohas Avidani when he went all in holding a pair of sixes. Avidani had pocket threes and the board read K,9, 3, A, K and with the simplest of hands he won an additional €10,000 in prize money.

The final table ran out Ran Sahanes €5,110, Matti Konttinen €6,170, Oystein Sannes €7,240, Stephen Sammon €8,3007, Johan Berg €10,220, Pier van Wieringen €28,130, Andrei Damchenko €24,940, Yohas Avidani €34,580 and Stefan Hansen €34, 160.

The next leg of the European Masters Poker competition will see everyone at the Casino Estori, Lisbon in Portugal between March 23rd and 26th. Hopeful players can already join in the various online satellite competitions that are being run with the chance of sitting down in the Portuguese capital and having a shot at the title.
