Harrison Gimble Wins WPT in Florida
Harrison Gimble beat a field of 288 poker players to take the World Poker Tour title in his home state of Florida. The competition, held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, earned him $330,000 profit from the $5,000 buy-in event.
This crowns a great year for 20-year-old Gimble, who started it off by taking the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January, winning $2.2 million.
He didn’t have it easy in Florida and very nearly went out on the first day, walking away from the table not realising that the river had done him a favour to keep his hopes alive. From there on in Gimble didn’t look back as he went all the way to the head to head with Ruberto, having knocked out Goldberg.
Gimble went into the final face-off holding a 2-1 chip advantage and the pair struck a deal for the title, trophy and prize money that saw them split the first prize of £381,564 and the second prize $233,678. Commenting on his victory, Gimble said, “I wanted to represent South Florida and win it for South Florida.”
Like so many of the latest group of poker players, fans will have to wait a little longer before Gimble is old enough to appear in the WSOP events next year, when he turns 21. Only able to play at a small number of competitions, he has already made a name for himself online, winning over $1.2 million under the poker name ‘gibler123’.
