Actor Nick Moran is set to add a touch of celebrity play into the Irish Poker Festival in Killarney. Moran, who became famous the role of poker playing Eddy in Guy Richie’s film “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels has been preparing well.

The event is due to start on the 1st of October and will run through to the 3rd and with a reasonable buy-in of €500 for a shot at some of the €250,000 pool prize there are a lot of takers expected. The tournament winner will get to take home €100,000 (£85,000).

Now in its third year the Irish Poker festival has high hopes, there were 800 believing lady luck was on their side in the first year and 750 last year. Organisers think that having a star attraction such as Nick Moran appearing might bring in a few more players.

Moran has been signed as the new face of Ladbrokes Poker and makes an excellent choice as the image of him playing cards in the centre of a boxing ring is cinematic legend. To prepare himself for his latest role he has been attending the Ladbrokes Poker School under the expert guidance of Jon Kalmar.

Nick says that having spent the last year learning the finer points of the game with Kalmar, he is feeling confident, “I feel I am in a great position to compete for the prize pot.” Adding that his tutor may come to regret teaching him too much if they meet on the final table.
