The European Poker Tour in Vienna saw the sponsors PokerStars heavyweight Daniel Negreanu head the leader board at the end of play on Day 2. Over half of the card players that started the poker tournament at the start of the week are now enjoying the sights from the rails. This would be further whittled down to 80 by the end of the session.

British online poker king Laurence Houghton started the day in tip slot but by chip count the irrepressible Negreanu had total command of the situation with 893,000 chips to his name. In an incredible turn of fortune, Wednesday’s wonder boy Houghton had a torrid time and over playing a pair of tens against Nima Ahary with pocket aces seriously dented his stack early on, joining the tour bus with the other nearly rans later in the day.

Tom Dwan was another who showed promise early on but failed to deliver and he too ended the day on the sidelines with Jake Cody, Boris Becker, Ruben Visser and Tobias Reinkemeier. Negreanu started slowly, nothing big, until he found a pair of pocket aces and went against Szymon Pieszczoch with a pair of kings. He soon after, holding a pair of tens, eliminated both Adam Jerney and Jurgen Wenigweiser and secured his big stack status for the day.

From now on in, all players are guaranteed at least €8,000 after the money bubble burst but all will secretly be hoping the others trip up as they head towards the main prize at the end of the tournament.
