Sam Trickett from the UK won through the field of 38 to take down the lucrative Aussie Milllions $100,000 Challenge at the Crown Casino in Melbourne. From the very start of the competition Trickett established himself as the man to beat when he was top of the leaderboard at the end of day 1 with 961,000 chips.

Despite a good start on the final table, Trickett suddenly had a change in fortune and gradually started to leak chips. Fellow Brit, Tony Bloom made a big dent in Trickett’s chip pile leaving him with 400,000, half of his original stack.

His never held however as the short stacked players Jeff Lisandro and David Benyamine were gradually picked off, until they were down to the final three. Play continued for a further two hours, with Eric Seidal eliminated into third place to leave a face off between Trickett and Bloom.

Bloom still had an uphill struggle though with Trickett having a 2-1 chip advantage and a straight early in on the match gave Trickett and even better 3-1 lead. Bloom finally went all in holding a Qd,9d while Trickett held Ah,Kd. When the board ran out 8h,3c,2c,8c,4c it was Sam Trickett’s hand that won giving him a first prize of $1,252,000. Bloom in second place took home $975,000 for his efforts.

The other prize winners on the final table were, in sixth place David Benyamine $150,000, in fifth position came James Obst $200,000, with David Sticke going home fourth with £325,000. Third placed Seidel got $625,000 from his day at the office.
