Alonso Takes On The Challenge

The initiative has once again swung away from Mark Webber in the final stages of the Formula One Championship as Fernando Alonso takes all the points and bets put him favourite to take the title.

On a rain soaked Korean race track, Alonso who is not renowned for his skill on a wet track managed to keep it together to take all the 25 points on offer while Mark Webber managed to crash off and put himself under more pressure once more as Alonso takes an 11 point lead.

The weather did no one any favours when the majority of the first half was under safety car conditions making it little more than an high speed parade but when first Webber and the Vettel failed to contend with the conditions it open the way for Alonso to steel the lime light. Hamilton kept his hopes alive by taking second place leaving him 21 points behind with two races to go but Jenson Button failed to score any making it near impossible for him to retain his title.

The bookmakers now see Alonso as the clear favourite to take this years championship and for the first time in what has been a very competitive season he takes the betting lead at 1.77, Webber is listed as 3.35 and the odds on Hamilton are now being quoted as 15.0 while you can get 16.0 on Sebastian Vettel. The next two races at the Gradne Primio Petrobras in Brazil and the final race at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi will settle it for this season.
