There is a full card for bookmakers this weekend at Aintree, with the pick of the bunch running in the Old Roan Chase as the UK calendar changes from flat racing to jumping. The Old Roan Chase is a well respected race and will feature a number of top class performers this weekend in the limited handicap race.

One to take serious account of when betting is Silmi, a 6 year old who over the summer has run at Bangor, Market Rasen and Cartmel. This weekend will see him contending to take his third score on the trot but faces a serious set up.

Albertas Run the 9 year old from Jonjo O’Neil’s stable will be ridden by Tony McCoy, on his last outing of the season, in the Grade 1, Melling Chase he scored and his proven track record over this distance makes him a solid bet.

Master Medic, is the real wild card in the starting line up, he hasn’t run since the King George where he pulled up. He has record of beating horses that have themselves gone on to score at Grade 2 level. Venetia Williams must have faith in this 9 year old and feel that he has a genuine chance against the debut runners.

Another horse likely to see a lot of betting action is Tartak who is a real contender in this race. He has already shown that he likes the course, scoring in the John Smith’s Manifesto Novice Chase in 2009. The Old Roan Chase will be a step up for him but with his love of the course he is definitely in with a chance.
