Branson Loses Sports Bet
The conclusion of Sunday’s F1 Grand Prix and the crowning of Sebastian Vettel also brought the result of one of the more strange sporting bets. Motor team and airline owners Richard Branson, of Virgin, and Tony Fernandes, owner of AirAsia and team Lotus, agreed that the owner of the F1 team that scored the least would dress as an airhostess on the rival’s airline for a flight.
The renowned entrepreneur Richard Branson is now set to slip into a fashionable little red number and push the trolley along one of Fernandes’ flights. Although neither team actually scored any points, Lotus did manage to finish higher than the Virgin team on more occasions.
Tony Fernandes issued a statement saying: “We have had this great bet running all season and now it’s time for Richard to start preparing himself for some hard work and the likely pain of a pair of high heels.”
It has been agreed that the tycoon will work a flight between Kuala Lumpar and London, with all the seats being sold by auction and the money donated to charity. AirAsia, which is SouthEast Asia’s largest budget carrier, is set to raise a nice sum with the help of Branson. Fernandes said: “The aim is to raise as much money as we can for good causes, so the discomfort Richard will go through is worth as much as it possibly can be.”
What odds will bookmakers be giving the pair next season?
