England’s Chances For World Cup Increase

England’s chances of hosting the 2018 football World Cup took a boost with a leaked FIFA report that rated them as a low risk alongside fellow contenders for the joint bid from, Spain/Portugal. While one of the main competitors Russia was classed as being a medium risk venue.

The copy of the report that has been circulated to a few organisations in advance said the England represented a low operational risk. This has led to some bookmakers making England a 6/4 chance of holding the event behind favourites Russia who are currently attracting betting at 10/4. The Spanish/Portuguese consortium is given a 7/2 chance and sports betting fans who like an outside chance can get Belgium at odds of 50/1.

The process has been rocked by scandal with votes for sale by the Nigerian and Tahiti’s member, while uncharitable comments about English society from the Russians have all cast a shadow over the process. Despite the suspensions of the two members and the inevitable cries of innocence, the usual clamour within FIFA will not affect the vote, due on the 4th December.

Discovery of the votes for sale incident also seems to indicate that England were the only country that would not have benefited from the expected disgraceful dealings. The two members involved are expected to be dismissed from the organisation later in the week, with a smaller council voting on who should host the 2018 event.
