Haye Favourite in Title Fight
David Haye is being tipped by bookmakers to retain his Heavyweight crown against Olympic gold medal boxer Audley Harrison, in what is being dubbed the ‘Battle of the Brits’ in Manchester this weekend.
The two boxers will face each other in a packed, 22,000 seated MEN Arena, where they will compete for the WBA title. Hayes is currently receiving the bookmakers’ nod with odds of 1/8, and aren’t feeling particularly confident about Harrison’s chances, giving him only a 5/1 chance of winning the bout. Sports-betting fans who feel that the two are evenly matched can get odds of 33/1 on a draw.
Haye has said that the chance to go against Harrison is going to be one of the high points of his career, and the Londoner has already built up quite a reputation for himself; only one defeat against Carl Thomson in 2004 after 25 professional matches is not a bad record.
However, in what is likely to be Harrison’s swansong, the boxer cannot be written off. Despite the odds against him, he is likely pinning his hopes on one of his famous left-handed knockouts to see him through.
Should Harrison make the full 12 rounds, the odds still favour Haye coming away with the points and odds of 5/1 on a win by decision seem to echo the bookies feeling that Harrison will not bow out on a high note.
