Maradona Interested in Premiership

Argentinean football legend, Diego Maradona has indicated that he would be very interested in taking charge of a Premiership team should the opportunity arise. The 49 year old star took the Argentina team to the quarter finals of this years World Cup in South Africa, where they were convincingly beaten by the Germans.

The appointing of Maradona by any of the teams would prove to be a big gamble as despite his success in the World Cup he has very little management experience to speak of. Those who have played under him seem to like his hands on management style but would anyone bet on him coping with the daily rigours of the Premiership or would it just prove to be an expensive publicity stunt for some club.

In an interview on Sky Sports News he said that the English Premiership is where he would like to continue his career, “I would like to manage in the Premier League, it has very good teams, an exceptional level and great players.” He acknowledged however that all of his preferred teams already had very good managers but if an important job became available he would accept it.

You can bet that his appointment would cause division amongst any team’s fans as he is still castigated for his “hand of God” antics in the 1986. He was linked with the Aston Villa job for a while earlier in the year but he maintains that he did not apply and was not contacted regarding the position.
