Murray Goes Sodering On

Andy Murray provided the crowds at the O2 Arena with some classic tennis as he beat Robin Sodering in his opening match in two straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-4. Betting odds were with Sodering, but despite his recent win in the Paris Masters and some excellent form, Soldering was dispatched rapidly by Murray who had slipped to fifth in the world rankings behind the Swede.

This was a totally different proposition for Sodering, who found great difficulty contending with Murray’s pace, movement, and coverage across the court, along with his consistently high quality serve. Murray seemed to have more hunger in front of his own crowd and gave Sodering a tennis lesson in double quick time.

Murray said: “I think tactically it was a great match, I think I played very smart tennis today.” After he managed to finish Sodering off in 80 minutes. He admitted that by the second set things were starting to get tougher but by sticking to his plan he “managed to come through.”

Murray faced only one break point throughout the match and conjured up ten aces, to Sodering’s two, while winning 75% of the points on his first serve.

As usual, the main competition is seen in the form of Roger Federer, who beat David Ferrer in the second match, winning 6-1, 6-4.

Bookmakers are currently firmly behind Federer, with odds of 5/2 on him taking the title, but Nadal is given a 3/1 chance and Murray’s display must have bettered his 11/2 odds.
