Andy Murray won his way through to the semi finals with a hard fought match against the surprising Ukrainian player Dolgoplov, who has put pay to a number of quality players on his Australian debut. Murray clinched the game 7-5, 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-3 to set up a meeting with David Ferrer.

Murray was two sets up with a break point in the third when Dolgopolov showed how he has managed to progress so far. He stunned Murray coming back to take the set and force it into a fourth. That though was where his challenge ended as Murray rapidly concluded the match.

The Scot is now 6/4 odds on to take the title but Roger Federer gets the bookmakers nod at 8/13 to win his 16th Grand Slam while Murray still tries to break the British hoodoo and win the UK’s first in 75 years. Novak Djokovic is also not out of contention and has beaten Federer before in the Australian Open in 2008, bookmakers are however only giving him a 8/1 outside chance this time around.

Murray’s first task will be to get past Ferrer though who despite the help with an injured Rafa Nadal is still 5/2 odds on taking the tie, while Murray is the favourite at 2/7 odds on. The untimely exit of Nadal has also seen the Scotsman’s odds of winning the final increased as well dropping from 15/8 to 6/4 giving him a great chance of reaching his second consecutive Australian Open Final.
