Odds on New Blackburn Managers Post

The new owners of Blackburn are being blamed for the sudden departure of big Sam Allardyce. His sacking seems to have little to do with the team’s current performance and comes only days after Newcastle’s dismal season saw Chris Hughton being shown the red card too.

The Newcastle decision is less of a surprise than the removal of Allardyce, but commentators are pointing to the availability of recent Ajax manager Martin Jol, who surprised everyone by walking away from the Dutch team. Speculation is now on as to whether he will be tempted by Blackburn for his next post after Newcastle appointed Alan Pardew, who had expressed a keen interest in returning to English football.

Bookmakers’ odds at present are Jol to join Blackburn 3/1. Martin O’Neil is the second favourite for the post at 6/1, but there are rumours of a more prestigious placement inline for O’Neil. The other possibilities for the Blackburn job are Alan Shearer at 8/1, while both Graeme Souness and Alan Churbishley have been given odds of 10/1 for the post. Other names that sports betting fans might want to consider are Dave Jones, Diego Maradona or Sven Goran Eriksson. Even ousted Newcastle manager Chris Hughton could be in with a chance.

Bookmakers are also now taking bets on Allardyce’s next position, with talk about him taking the helm of the wobbly England ship being touted. The more sensible talk is of the Midlander returning to his roots and taking charge at Wolves at 15/8, and West Ham with odds of 2/1. The replacement of Capello gets odds of 14/1.
