Could the tale of the founding of social network, Facebook be set to win an Oscar next year? Bookmakers Paddy Power feels confident and has offered odds that the life story of 26-year-old Mark Zuckerberg will be in the running when nominations are announced. Facebook is now famous the world over, with a membership of 500 million and has been translated into over 100 languages, making Zuckerberg one of the richest men on the planet.

“The Social Network” will be in the cinema from the 17th October and predictions are that will such a following the story will be an instant success, knocking last years film “Avatar” off the number one slot for highest grossing film.

Popular Director David Fincher who already has such cult classics as Fight Club, The Game and Se7en to his name has made the film and Justin Timberlake is being suggested as a possible for best supporting actor.

Paddy Power are offering odds of 18/1 that it best the record for the highest grossing film and giving Timberlake 10/1 and lead role actor, Jesse Eisenberg 8/1 odds of lifting an Oscar. Sharon McHugh for Paddy Power said, “There’s a lot of talk about “The Social Network” and we expect phenomenal success.”

Should it win the plaudits then there is likely to be a rush on similar films being made as Hollywood tries to cash in the formula. By next summer can we expect “The Google Story” and “Wikipedia Tells All” being released?
