A prison officer from Brechin in Scotland has landed the largest win on the pools ever, taking home £3,001,511 on the football pools. Michael Elliot correctly gambled on eight 2-2 draws between teams playing on the Scottish, English and Spanish football leagues.

The last match to come in and seal the victory for Elliot as the 2-2 draw between Clitheroe and Fylde. The 56 year old who is formerly from Kent said, “I cannot believe it, it is a dream come true.” He added that to say it was a life changing experience would be the understatement of the year.

Elliot said he had played the pools for many years and the best result he had had before this weekends result was £32. An ex-forces man who joined the prison service and has been a warden near Forfar for the last 13 years now plans to leave his job once he has picked up the pools winning cheque.

Kristina Fairweather, his girlfriend has tried to talk Elliot out of his weekly £2 gamble during the summer but is now going to be happily planning their wedding day.

This was the second big win for British punters over the weekend as another lucky Brit bagged the EuroMillions lottery. The lucky ticket holder landed a massive £113 million but as of yet no one has stepped forward to claim the prize. Camelot said that whoever has it will get the surprise of a lifetime.
