Scotland Victory In The Rain

Scotland secured what it will consider a famous victory against the betting on Saturday, as the team triumphed against an unconvincing South Africa in the rain.

South Africa went into the match with hopes of the Triple Crown after close wins against Wales and Ireland, but they were to be denied by a canny Scottish performance. In weather that afforded no one an advantage, the World Champions were kept pinned in their own half for much of the game, and the boot of Dan Parks ensured their constant infringements would be punished.

South Africa scored the only try of the match when Alberts spotted a gap in the line out, but with Patrick Lambie failing with the conversion, Scotland held on to the lead and managed to keep their heads in the last 10 minutes to win 21-17.

South Africa must now have a rethink if they are to perform against England, who will be relishing the opportunity after beating the Australians and completing a solid victory over the Samoans.

England’s odds at the bookmakers against South Africa next weekend have improved as they are quoted 10/17 in victories, against a South Aftican win of 20/11. Wales have the hardest task facing a rampant New Zealand at odds of 1/19 of silencing the Principality’s crowd. Scotland will be feeling confident for the task against the giants of Samoa, while the Irish entertaining the Pumas must try their luck at the newly revamped Lansdowne Road.
