It has been announced that Wayne Rooney will miss next Wednesday’s derby match against Man City. The striker has also been sent to America for rehabilitation on his ankle injury, which has seen him miss all of Manchester United’s matches since the 16th October.

Rooney hasn’t made an appearance for his team since the mass hysteria caused by his initial decision to leave the team at the end of his contract. Since then, Rooney had a change of heart and has signed a new contract with the team that will see him earn an estimated £200,000 per week.

It is thought that Rooney will be in America for a week, with Sky Sports reporting that he could return to the UK on 13th November. It is hoped that he might take part in the team’s clash against Wigan on the 20th November.

Speaking about the striker, Manchester United’s assistant manager Mike Phelan said: “What we are intending to do with Wayne is send him to Nike Town (in Oregon) for a week’s conditioning training.”

“We have decided, with Wayne, the medical team and the coaching staff that it would be the best thing for him.

“It’s a week’s intensive conditioning, under the supervision of our medical team and our sport’s science department”

Currently Sky Bet is offering odds of 6/4 that Manchester United will beat Manchester City without Wayne Rooney being in the team. Will they do it?
