West Ham Woes Increase

Sunday’s match saw woe increase for West Ham as they lost 1-0 to Sunderland, though the fans must have felt confident of the Hammers’ chances after dismissing Manchester United in the Carling Cup 4-0.

Their trip to the northeast didn’t prove to be as profitable when Jordan Henderson put the ball in the net in the first half. The result was all that was needed to put West Ham at the foot of the table and for bookmakers to increase the odds on them facing the drop.

Sports betting fans can get 3 /4 on them playing Championship football next season, while the odds on Blackpool making an immediate return down a division have lengthened to 4/6.

Other teams in the danger zone include Wolves 8/13 and Wigan 8/11. Both have been experiencing a difficult period over the last couple of weeks. Fellow Midlanders, Aston Villa and London club Fulham at odds of 7/2, are also facing troubled times with goal difference just keeping them out of the drop zone.

Everton and Birmingham come next in the table, surprisingly both below Blackpool. Both are only one loss and a few other results not going their way to see them in the bottom three.

The other surprise package of this season, West Bromwich Albion, beat Newcastle 3-1 and are now sitting pretty in eighth position. This result, while not dire for Newcastle does only leave them four points clear of the danger zone.
