Famous Poker Stars
There are many famous pokerstars that still play poker today. Some of the most famous pokerstars include Chris Ferguson, Jennifer Harman and John Juanda. John Juanda was interested in becoming a doctor if he did not make it big in the poker industry. He began studying at Oklahoma State University in 1990 and then moved to Seattle University and got his MBA. John started playing poker in 1996 but did not win until 2001 in the World Poker Open Championship. In 2002 John won his first bracelet of the World Series of Poker in the game of A-5 Triple Draw Lowball. In 2001 and 2002 he then was a runner up for the Card Player Tournament Player of the Year award. In 2002 he did win the Tournament Champion of the Year and has also won 3 Best All Around Player awards. He won $500,000 in Monte Carlo due to playing in the Monte Carlo Millions Main Event where he took 6th place. He took second place in the FullTiltPoker.Net Invitational Live from Monte Carlo as well as the Monte Carlo Millions Consolation Tournament.
Jennifer Harman is known for high stakes involvement in poker, and is one of the only female players that have ever went pro. She has a section of Doyle Brunson’s Super System 2, and this is strictly about playing in fixed limits Texas Hold’em games. She turned 21 and started to play poker full time, playing limit hold’em and was very successful. She has played against Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan and Phil Ivey to name a few. Jennifer won the first World Series of Poker bracelet in 2007 by playing and winning the 2-7 Triple Draw. She had never played this game before and took a short tutorial from Howard Lederer before she began the hand. He second bracelet was won in 2002 playing her game the Limit Hold’em.
Chris Ferguson is one of many famous pokerstars, and was given the nickname of Jesus due to his look. He went to UCLA for 18 consecutive years with 5 as an undergrad and 13 as a grad student. He was asked to leave and was eventually given a Computer Science PhD when he left. He played cards all through college and started playing on the internet in a text based chat room with no money. In 1995 he played in his first World Series of Poker tourney. In 2000 he beat out T.J. Cloutier and won the World Series of Poker’s Main Event. He won the bracelet at the main event and then one in Seven Card Stud as well. He also won the Omaha Hi/Lo tourney in 2003 a total of 5 bracelets.
Although these are nowhere near the best or the most famous pokerstars, these people have come from varying backgrounds and proved that no matter where you come from you can play and win poker. Regardless of their humble beginnings, educational backgrounds or years of experience, famous pokerstars can come from any corner of the world and can be made from the meekest and mildest of characters.
